Espalier Trellis

Craig and Anne Anderson worked on the espalier trellis. Craig was judiciously cutting off stray growth and Anne was digging up unwanted vegetation from underneath. She intends to leave the "friendly" plants, plus “layer root” some new starts from some of the newer, more pliable apple growth.

In continuation of the black versus clear plastic we noticed that the covering on some of the beds, which are being used to research how long it takes to warm the soil, had puddles of rains accumulating. Craig tested the temperature of the soil earlier and found that the soil under the puddles was actually warmer than that which did not have a resident puddle.
