The New Compost Bin

The new bin for composting weeds is beautiful! It will help keep the area behind the shed clean. United Way had planned to send a crew for the Day of Caring to build it, but for some reason the crew never showed. That did not stop Jack Hamilton who had come to help. He set up shop, built the pieces and with the help of Tom Tucker and John Mikesell, put it together in an accessible, but out of the way, area beyond the arbors that John had cleared earlier.

Tom brought a very large impressive log which he and Jacob Morgan rolled to the existing compost bin and set up as a chopping block for cutting the vegetation before it joins the compost. Some speculation as to whether or not a machete or a cleaver will be the best tool for accomplishing the job led to the decision to bring and try both. In the meantime, Jacob did a fine job of chopping what we had already accumulated. Not to worry—there will be plenty more next week.
