As promised we toiled cheerfully at whatever needed to be done at Anna Smith Park! The evidence presented as large bags of produce taken to the Soup Kitchen by Suzanne Holland. I think Jim Rodman said we had 32 pounds for the week, and that is a generous amount coming at the end of the season. It brings us to a total of almost 500 pounds for the year –and would have been over the 500 if not for the “missing in action” pumpkins, squash and corn.
The beans on the hoop and another bed were picked and the vines pulled by Carole Reese and Debra Hall, with Rosemary Long crouched inside the hoop to get the hard to reach vines. Carol Harcharik harvested one more squash before bidding the vines farewell and Lois Maynard decided that no cucumbers were the right number to stop with. The pepper bushes yielded a bag full and Betty Clark gave the plants the rest of the year off.
