Food Bank for the Animal Kingdom

For years we have been laboring—happily, I might say—under the impression that we are growing vegetables for the soup kitchen. And so we are. We now find that we have an additional purpose. We obviously are also the food bank for the animal kingdom!

The rose eating deer and the mole with a vengeance have spread the word and now we have other visitors. This week the corn was the victim. Several stalks were bent over and broken and the ears eaten to the cob. Well, there were a few ears that only had the husks shredded, but most were bare. No, they did not get all of them—I think they are waiting for more to be ready to harvest--- but we think the raccoons are the perps. No deer tracks, no mole holes and plenty of beans on the vines, so we have pretty much narrowed it down. Aren’t we the lucky ones?
